Bridge bearings which are
fitted between the superstructure and substructure
(piers), are an important part of the overall bridge
structure.
They play a pivotal role of transmitting the forces
which occur due to dead weight and live load, along with
braking forces and wind forces, to the pillars and
abutments. Bridge bearings are expected to allow the
rotation and movement occurring due to heavy traffic,
pre-stressing, earthquakes, temperature variations,
creep and shrinkage. |
